SHARES TO CERTIFICATES
On May 14, 1957, we became non-profit as to individual members. In 1961, the stock shares were changed to "Certificates."
ORIGINAL CLUBHOUSE ENLARGED
During the first few years, 1957 to 1963, we struggled along without an adequate clubhouse. The original 120' x 60' building constructed by Bob Standley and his volunteer carpenters was used as a place for Pro Tom O'Leary to sign up greens fee players and sell a modest line of golf supplies and a place for a small bar and lounge. As time went by, this small bui
lding underwent many trans-formations as the need for more space became apparent. We needed showers, locker rooms, storage space, etc. Most of the original clubhouse enlargements and additions were completed in 1963, again, with much volunteer labor. Each addition that was subsequently joined to the original building made the entirety an unattractive hodgepodge.
ARTESIAN WELL (FIRST HOLE)
As the towns in our area grew in population and the demand for water increased, the water supply became a problem. Many local towns found it necessary to restrict the use of water in critical times during the summer. It was noted that a water shortage would be catastrophic for our golf course. Although the town of Foxborough had always fared better than others, a possibility still existed that we might someday be cut off from the town water supply.
In 1966 a well was drilled on the top of the hill, on the right of the first hole, to a depth of 233 feet where we struck a volume flow of 110 gallons per minute. This water was tested and found unfit for human consumption. Later, two more deep wells were drilled and although we did not find the same volume, we were better protected from serious future shortages. With the addition of the wells, water became less expensive for our club and we were able to put in a centerline non-automatic watering system for the fairways.
SUPERINTENDENT'S HOUSE
The current superintendent's residence (small cape on left of entrance road) was originally located on Neponset Avenue. It was donated to the club by The Foxboro Company and moved by them in October 1970 on to the club property where it now stands. A cart and storage shed was donated by Newt Congdon.
